We are starting Kindergarten! Yay! Finn is now 5 and Bram is 4. They graduated Preschool last year and we used the cirriculum The Good and the Beautiful. We finished the Preschool language arts and part of the K level Math.
I started out just Homeschooling Finn and letting Bram do busy work and color pages with numbers and letters, but he was so interested in doing what Finn was doing that I eventually ended up homeschooling them in the same level.
I sometimes add a few little arts and crafts to the lessons. I have learned that starting off the school year with a lesson plan really helps! There are 120 lessons in their Kindergarten curriculum so I mapped it out accordingly. I have attached our lesson plan to show how I did the dates and spread out the lessons. We are not very strict on following them exactly though. Some days, they might be really into homeschool and we might do 3 lessons. Some days, someone might not be feeling great so we skip a day, but the lesson plan helps to make sure we don't ever fall too far behind. I do find that setting a routine is super helpful though. We usually eat breakfast and then go to the coffee shop, the creek, the porch, or dining table to do homeschool.
When they wake up, I usually have a little screen free actibity for them to do on the coffee table along with a morning pre-breakfast snack (cereal, a granola bar, a banana). Here are the busy pages I made and have one out for them each day with some colors. They finish one of these and then I will have a game set out, legos, blocks, or paints for them to do (also so I can get an extra 30 min of sleep haha)!
Here is the little About Me page I did this year for them to fill out so we can look back and see what they were interested in, what they liked and all of their favorite things!
Target (as of end of July beginning of August 2024) have some amazing $1-$3 flash cards in their dollar section! They are perfect for preschool- kindergarten!
We also have their Fields and Flowers science books from The Good and the Beautiful when they want to have outside homeschool days!
