FAQ on our new build

Q: How many acres did y'all buy?

A: 12.5 ! We were looking for around 10 acres and stumbled upon this piece of land and put an offer in within a week! We were originally going to build on the front part of the property and keep the rest wooded, but when I was out there with the boys, a guy that has been working in the area clearing land said "excuse me ma'am! Are you planning on putting your house right there?" I told him yes and he said "Oh no ma'am! You are putting it back on the second hill back there! Look, I will clear a nice spot for your tomorrow and show you!" He did just that and we fell in love with the new spot!

Q: Where did you find your floor plan?

A: When we built our first house (the cove cottage house plan from southern living) we were deciding between that floor plan and the Mama Crovatt floor plan from Southern Living. This go round, we just decided to go ahead and look at the Mama Crovatt. We loved the exterior of it but the interior just didn't work for what we needed. We wanted the guest room downstairs for my mom (who is disabled), a studio downstairs for my photography, and our bedroom on the same floor as the boys. I also really wanted a dining room in a separate space off the back of the house that opened up onto a deck. We drew out the exterior of the Mama Crovatt plan and changed a few things on the outside, and completely created our own plan on the inside!

Q: Will you get any animals?

A: Yes! We would love to get a dog, chickens, goats, maybe some bunnies, and I really want ducks!

Q: Are you planning on doing any wallpaper in this house?

A: Yes! I am so excited that I will be collaborating with Sandberg Wallpaper! I have a blog post about some samples we have ordered so far and I will update as it gets closer to picking out those details!

Q: Will you be building anything else on the land?

A: Yes! My husband needs a barn/ shed for all of his tools and he is building me a garden and a chicken coop! He will also be building a bridge over the little run off creek where our driveway is and a clubhouse for the boys!

Q: What is your inspiration for this house? What style will the inside be?

A: I am very drawn to older cottages! My husband and I always point out those old cottages with a wrap around porch and always say that is our dream house! So we decided to build one! We love classic cottage style with touches or French, European, and warm woods and whites. A few beams, transoms, wood doors, antique lighting, and pretty much anything that catches our eye! I love unique pieces that are one of a kind!

Q: What flooring are you going with in this house?

A: We are going with the Mohawk Rare Vintage collection in Cedar Chestnut! It is a waterproof laminate and it was the first thing we picked before we even had our plans finalized! I feel like flooring sets the tone for the entire house so we wanted to make sure we found one we both loved so all the other accents can come together !
