Let's talk mood boards

Mood boards. Mood boards. Mood boards!

I have digital mood boards, physical mood boards and I collect all of the samples to see what textures, colors, finishes I like together!

Digital Mood Boards:

Let's start with Digital mood boards. I Pinterest A LOT! I'm sure you do too. I make a Pinterest board for each room and all of the details that I love. With this new house I am taking each room as it's own. Our old house I played it safe; same color for the walls, trim, ceiling, cabinets.. everything. This house, I am playing around different colors and, YES, wallpaper! I have a super fun collaboration coming up with a wallpaper company and I am so excited to pick some fun details for each room.

When I make a digital mood board, I use Canva and put my favorite photos into a mood board. I try to stick to 6-8 photos. I start with what flooring I am using for that room, even if it is just an iphone photo, and go from there. I try to put the flooring photo toward the bottom of the photo, and put the elements relatively where they would go in the room.

After I have the mood boards for each room, I try to see what furniture I already have that is similar and add it to that room. That way, when I set up my room, I can just add the photos on the wall and decor! For this master bedroom mood board above, I have a similar headboard, chair, armoire, and linen curtain set!

Physical Mood Boards:

Physical mood boards are great for the actual samples you have on hand. Paint samples, cabinet knobs and pulls, fabrics, wallpaper samples, etc.

I keep a binder with all of my home design for each project I am working on. I keep a section for wallpaper, paint colors, etc.

You can mix and match textures and see what looks good together! Take it room by room and focus on one at a time!
