We are so excited to start building our new home in the woods! The property is so beautiful and has the prettiest creek that runs through it!!
We had just finished a renovation project with my friend Callie Richardson on a beautiful house on her working farm. We're so proud of how it turned out and sold it to a very sweet couple from Georgia!
Then, it came time to look for land for our forever home. We had a few items on our checklist! We wanted lots of woods (my husband loves to hunt and the boys want to be 'deer hunters' and 'Indiana Jones' when they grow up), we wanted around 10 acres, and we wanted to be closer to family.
My husband and I have always been drawn to these older homes that have a half wrap around porch. When we built our first house we were deciding between the Cove Cottage house plan from Southern Living, and the Mama Crovatt House Plan. We decided on the Cove Cottage for the first one, so this go 'round we said "well let's build the Mama Crovatt" this time. We loved the look of the exterior, but we could not get the interior to work for us the way we wanted. I wanted the dining room off the back of the house, almost in a separate room. I also wanted my photography studio right when you walk in, as well as the guest room downstairs since my mom can't walk upstairs. We also wanted the master on the same floor as the babies room. There was SO much work that needed to be rearranged to make it work. So with A LOT of brainstorming and a little (okay a lot) of photoshop, Andrew and I came up with a floor plan that is perfect for us! It has an office for Andrew, a photography studio for me, the guest room downstairs, and we really wanted to fit all of our must-haves while staying around 2,500 square feet!
Here is a photoshop rendering that I put together:
Here are some of the inspiration mood boards I made for the main rooms:
Playing in the creek is our favorite thing lately! Now that the weather is warmer, we go out in the evenings and look for deer tracks, arrowheads and build bridges in the creek!
I can't wait to share all about the process and the progress here from designing and building the house to building the chicken coop, barn, playhouse, and bridge! Follow me on @whitecottagecreek instagram to see more behind the scenes, tips, and daily updates!
Hugs,
Whitney
